NHA TRANG — Striker Lê Văn Nam scored a crucial goal in the fourth minute of injured time to help Việt Nam edge out Myanmar 2-1 in the International U19 Football Tournament at Nha Trang City’s Stadium on Thursday.

The score redeemed his mistake when he missed a spot kick in the second half time of the match against Myanmar.

It’s the second win for the host at the tournament after a 2-0 win over Chinese Taipei on Wednesday.

The win took Việt Nam to the top of the table in the five-team tournament with six points.

Striker Tuấn Anh opened the score for Việt Nam 13 minutes into the game when he grabbed an accurate right cross from his team to net the ball.

However, Sone Naing of Myanmar equalised the game in the 19th minute with a specular finish at a close-range shot, stunning Vietnamese goalie Trương Thái Hiếu and the defence.

Vietnamese Văn Xuân and Việt Anh then missed clear chances to score for the host in the last minutes of the first half.

Striker Lê Văn Nam missed a clear chance just three minutes into the second half, when he sent a spot kick high over the bar.

In an earlier match yesterday, U-19 Hoàng Anh Gia Lai were held to a goalless draw by South Korean Gwangju FC.
