HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Football Federation has decided to suspend Senegalese striker Pape Omar Faye of FLC Thanh Hóa for eight matches after he made a rude gesture towards supporters during the match between Thanh Hóa and Khánh Hòa in the league’s second round on Saturday.

Along with the suspension, Faye was fined VNĐ30 million (US$1,300). His club also decided to not pay his salary during the suspension.

“Faye will realise his mistake when his salary isn’t paid,” said a Thanh Hóa official.

Faye received a red card for slapping Khánh Hoà’s captain Văn Vũ following a scuffle between the two teams. On his way to the tunnel, Faye made an obscene gesture towards the spectators. — VNS
