HÀ NỘI — Athletes set up three new records at the ongoing National Athletics Championships in Hà Nội.
Hoàng Thị Thanh of Military yesterday won and set the first record in the women’s marathon event with a new record of 2: 45.09.
The old record of 2:45.34 belonged to retired Phạm Thị Bình of Quảng Ngãi set up in 2013.
The new champion said she was surprised with her achievement as she had never made it in 2:48.00. It seemed that the cool weather key element to help her run faster.
Tăng Văn Hải from Vĩnh Long triumphed in the men’s hammer throw with a 51,94m result. He beat his own record of 51.68m set two years ago.
His female teammate Nguyễn Thị Hồng Thương threw a distance of 48.40m in the discus event, knocking down Sóc Trăng’s Lê Thị Lài’s record of 46.08m made last year.
In the third day of competitions, Đà Nẵng’s siblings Nguyễn Thị Thanh Phúc, who got married last week, and Nguyễn Thành Ngưng, defended their respective titles in the women’s and men’s 20km walking races.
Phúc finished her race with a time of 1:45.04, while her younger brother Ngưng needed 1:33.31 to reached the cross line.
Other winners of the day were Phạm Thị Thanh Trúc of Vĩnh Long in the women’s hammer throw (49.77m); Trần Minh Tuấn of Vĩnh Long in the men’s discus (45,06m); Trương Thị Thu from Thanh Hóa in the women’s pole-vault (3.70m); Nguyễn Văn Huệ of Hải Dương in the men’s pole-vault (4.40m) and Bùi Thế Anh of Military in the men’s marathon (2:24.33).
