HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên ranked sixth in the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup’s women’s 200m medley in Japan yesterday.
Viên came in at 2 min 9.39 sec for the race, a better result than her performance in qualification (2:11.28).
She set up a new national record, beating the old one of 4:10.05.
The gold medal went to Hungarian world champion and Olympic winner Katinka Hosszu with a time of 2:04.56. Miho Teramura of the host country came second, with a time of 2:06.11. And Yuliya Efimova from Russia took the bronze with a result of 2:07.33.
Earlier, Viên failed in the 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle categories.
The Japanese tournament is one of FINA World Cup series with nine stages which has been organised in August until the end of this month.
After Tokyo, athletes will take part in the last event in Hong Kong on October 29-30. — VNS
