Trâm beats third seed at Asian championship

Vietnamese Grandmaster Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm defeated third seed Munguntuul Batkhuyag of Mongolia to rank second in the women’s category at the ongoing Asian Individual Chess Championship.

HÀ NỘI – Vietnamese Grandmaster Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm defeated third seed Munguntuul Batkhuyag of Mongolia to rank second in the women’s category at the ongoing Asian Individual Chess Championship.

After three rounds, Trâm had 2.5 points and ranked behind Pourkashiyan Atousa of Iran, who is in the top position with three points.

Trâm, the national champion, will next play Li Xueyi of China.

Atousa will play Viet Nam’s Nguyễn Thị Mai Hưng, who is currently ranked fifth.

In the men’s side, GM Lê Quang Liêm continued to lead the group by winning all his three matches.

The number one seed will next play GM Wen Yang of China.

Liêm’s two teammates, Nguyễn Huỳnh Minh Huy and Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn, have two points each and were out of top 20 players.

The championship, which provides World Cup 2017 tickets to the best players, will end on June 5 in Uzbekistan. – VNS
