Two Vietnamese players advance at U14 tennis event

Only two Vietnamese players won the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Asia 14 and Under Championships Division 1’s first matches at Lan Anh tennis club in HCM City on March 15.

HÀ NỘI — Only two Vietnamese players won at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Asia 14 and Under Championships Division 1’s first matches at Lan Anh tennis club in HCM City on March 15.

Lian Trần did not have any difficulty in beating Ira Rawat of Nepal 6-0, 6-4 in the girls’ singles category.

Trần Quang Trường, seeded 14th, defeated Wong Kevin of China’s Hong Kong 6-1, 7-5 in the boys’ singles match.

Meanwhile, Nguyễn Minh Nhật lost to Olimjon Nabiev of Uzbekistan 0-2 and Từ Lê Duy Khánh was defeated by ninth seed Zheng Zhan of China 0-2.

The remaining four Vietnamese players also lost to their rivals with the same score of 0-2.

The tournament, in which 66 players from 16 nations are competing, will end on March 25.

Việt Nam have been promoted to ITF’s Division I after claiming first place in the 2015 edition of Division II in HCM City. The team won two boys’ singles titles, two boys’ doubles titles and two second-place finishes. — VNS
