Huyền wins Việt Nam’s first Asian championships U15 silver

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese young player Nguyễn Thị Thu Huyền won silver at the Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships 2024 which will close on August 26 in China.

No 2 Huyền successfully advanced to the women's singles U15 final where she lost 20-22, 11-21 to No 1 seed Tanvi Patri of India.

Liu Yu Tong of the hosts and Kungkaew Kakanik of Thailand shared third place.

According to coach Khoa Trung Kiên, it was the first time that a Vietnamese player was in a gold-medal match at an Asian level tournament.

This achievement was a strong positive outcome for Việt Nam's badminton in terms of training paying off and Huyền is one of the rising stars.

The championships is held from August 20-26 in Chengdu, China. Players competed in the men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles in the U15 and U17 age groups.

Việt Nam had seven athletes at the tournament but only Huyền could reach the final. VNS
