HÀ NỘI -- The national jujitsu team has set its sights on the highest possible results at the Asian championships which will be held from May 2-9 in the UAE.
In addition to the bouts for senior competitors, young fighters will also have chance to shine in the junior tournament at the same venue.
“We will present the best athletes with a purpose of winning medals here," said coach Trần Văn Thạch.
"Currently we have fighters with good quality and mind of tactics. They have the potential to vie for top positions in regional and continental tournaments. However, many countries have also strongly invested in jujitsu and become competitive rivals.
"In the championships, Vietnamese athletes will not only compete for medals but also learn and gain experience."
Đào Hồng Sơn and Phùng Thị Huệ are two key members of the team. Sơn is two-time SEA Games 56kg champion while Huệ is defending champion in the women's 45kg.
Last year, Việt Nam won five gold, two silver and 17 bronze medals to place fourth in the tally. VNS
