HÀ NỘI — Wrestlers Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Trang and Nguyễn Thị Xuân will represent Việt Nam at an Olympic qualification event in Kyrgyzstan on April 19-21.
Trang is the 32nd SEA Games champion in the women's 57kg while Xuân is the winner of the women's 50kg. Both are currently on an intensive training camp in Kyrgyzstan.
General Secretary of the Việt Nam Wrestling Federation Tạ Tùng Đức said: "Athletes are selected based on their profession and improvement. We also sent them to practise in Kyrgyzstan as it will host the Asian zonal qualifier."
To win a spot at the Olympics, the duo will have to qualify for the final matches, facing very strong rivals,
Đức said in their latest competition in Asian Games, both Trang and Xuân were stopped in the first round matches. They would meet the Asian Games strongest athletes again in Bishkek.
After the Asian qualifier, unsuccessful athletes can find their last opportunities at the world qualification event in May in Turkey. — VNS
