National players will compete for title at national chess champs

The National Chess Championship 2024 will feature 220 masters competing in five categories in Hà Nội.

HÀ NỘI — The nation’s strongest chess masters will compete at the National Chess Championship 2024 in Hà Nội.

The March 8-16 event will feature 220 athletes from 22 delegations. Among them are title favourites such as Nguyễn Thị Mai Hưng, Võ Thị Kim Phụng, Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên and Nguyễn Thị Thanh An on the women's side, and Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn, Lê Tuấn Minh and Nguyễn Tuấn Minh on the men's side.

Young talented players including Đầu Khương Duy, Đinh Nho Kiệt, Bạch Ngọc Thùy Dương, Nguyễn Hồng Nhung, Nguyễn Xuân Phương and Bành Gia Huy who dominated international junior competitions in 2023 will also take part in the tournament.

Masters will compete in five categories of standard, rapid, blitz, super blitz and ASEAN chess.

Last year, Trần Tuấn Minh won the men's standard chess title for Hà Nội, while Phụng of Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu brought home the women's standard chess gold. VNS
