ĐÀ NẴNG — It has been more than a year since the Dragons enjoyed a winning feeling in the VBA.
Now they have finally tasted victory with the score 104-83 in their penultimate game of this season against the Ho Chi Minh City Wings.
The match was held on Saturday (August 26) at the Sơn Trà Gymnasium, Đà Nẵng City.
Many people predicted that this would be their best chance to get the first win of this season because in the last match, they will face defending champions Saigon Heat.
The City Wings had issues of their own with main scorer Jeremy Smith and head coach Erik Olson both suspended in this match because each had committed three technical fouls.
And after five minutes of the first quarter, big man Yevgen Sakhniuk of the City Wings was substituted due to injury.
The guests had to play without foreign players for the rest of the game.
With this huge advantage, the host quickly controlled the game and ended the first quarter with the score 26-21.
Enter the second quarter, William Trần proved the rumour that this would be his last season in VBA with one of the best performances of his career.
Before the break, he passed his career high with 34 points and was the top scorer of the home team.
The hosts took the lead with the score 64-41 after the second quarter.
After the break, the guest tried their best to shorten the lead thanks to many three-pointers from local players
However, with just the young local players in the lineup, there was nothing much they could do.
The Dragons took the 18-point lead (87-69) after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter continued with the same scenario as the Dragons were the better team.
The match ended with the score 104-83 for the Dragons. After 16 loses, finally the Dragons got their first win.
William Trần won the Player of the Game award with 46 points, 10 rebounds, Two assists and two blocks.
He also broke the record for scoring points for an overseas Vietnamese player when he passed the record of 43 points of Việt Arnold of the Saigon Heat set in the VBA 2017 season. VNS
