HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội topped the shooting event at the National Sports Games, which saw 30 new national records at the Hà Nội National Sports Training Centre.
Hà Nội finished with the most medals with 17 golds, 15 silvers and seven bronzes.
The Military came in second (16, 14, 6) and HCM City third (6, 3, 9).
As host of the event and also the strongest team in shooting, Hanoian marksmen also set 11 new national records.
"Our athletes had an intensive training course in Thailand, and 10 days prior to the tournament, we practised at this venue to be familiar with the facility. These were key points leading to our team winning," said coach Nguyễn Tấn Nam of Hà Nội.
Other new records went to competitors of the Military, HCM City, Public Security, Hải Dương and Quảng Ninh.
According to coach Hồ Thanh Hải of the Military, the high quality of the facility was one of the most important conditions leading to the athletes' positive results. Plus, all teams prepared really well for the tournament, for which they waited four years.
Meanwhile, Vũ Thị Anh Đào of the Shooting Department of the Việt Nam Sports Administration, said the competition was organised to international standards. The shooting range has been renovated to serve in the SEA Games 31 in May.
The shooting competition was organised from November 23-29 with the participation of 260 athletes from 13 teams competing for 50 sets of medals. — VNS
