HCM City wins rowing event at National Sport Games

After six days of competition, HCM City won four golds, four silvers and one bronze, and for the first time led the medal tally which had been dominated for 10 years by Hải Dương (2013-18) and Đà Nẵng (2018-21).

HÀ NỘI — HCM City topped the rowing competition at the National Sport Games, which wrapped up on November 23 in Hải Phòng.

After six days of competition, HCM City won four golds, four silvers and one bronze, and for the first time led the medal tally which had been dominated for 10 years by Hải Dương (2013-18) and Đà Nẵng (2018-21).

Đà Nẵng and Hải Dương were second and third, respectively.

On the last day, Đà Nẵng's Nguyễn Lâm Kiều Diễm and Phạm Thị Huệ won the gold in the women's double sculls with a time of 7min 27.96sec.

They were followed by HCM City's Hồ Thị Lý and Lê Thị Hiền and Thái Bình's Đặng Thị Huyền Trang and Bùi Thị Phương.

Nguyễn Văn Hiếu from Hà Tĩnh won the men's single sculls in a time of 7:25.55. His teammates earlier won the women's four event in 7:10.88 .

The HCM City team then took a gold in the men's four clocking 6:15.38. 

Hà Nội secured victory in the women's lightweight pair in 7:48.77.

Thái Bình enjoyed its third gold at the tournament when it overcame powerful rivals to top the women's lightweight quadruple sculls with a time of 6:59.68.

Hải Dương and Thanh Hóa shared the top podium of the men's lightweight pair as they both crossed the finish line at 6:47.69.

"The rowing event has successfully come to an end with good results from teams," said Nguyễn Hải Đường, general secretary of the Việt Nam Rowing and Canoeing Federation.

"I am happy to see that teams have shown strong progress. The gap between them has been narrowed quite remarkably. It means that the quality of athletes is getting better, leading to a competitive tournament," he said.

The rowing event lured more than 162 athletes from 18 teams competing for 20 sets of medals.

National team rowers will gather to get ready for the Asian championship and Asian junior championship in Thailand from November 27. — VNS
