HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athletes, claimed seven gold medals at Indonesia's ASEAN Para Games (APG) 2022.
Võ Huỳnh Anh Khoa brought home the first gold medal in the men’s 400m freestyle S8 event. Khoa finished his race with a time of five minutes and 29.35 seconds to triumph.
On the women’s side of the 400m freestyle S8, Lê Thị Dung set a new Games record and took the gold medal with a time of 5:59.87, breaking the old record of 7:24.10.
Dung continued to shine in the women’s 100m freestyle S8 after beating strong rivals to finish first with a time of 1:19.92.
In the men’s 100m breaststroke SB13, Trần Quốc Phi triumphed after clocking a time of 1:14.80.
Another Vietnamese swimmer, Vi Thị Hằng, beat Nor Aimah and Ina Prihati Nur Islami to take a gold medal in the women’s 100m freestyle S7 with a time of 1:20.42.
Veteran swimmer Võ Thanh Tùng also made his name on the golden board in the men’s 50m backstroke S5 with a time of 42.17secs.
Another gold medal of the Vietnamese team belonged to the table tennis men’s team after they beat the Singaporean squad in the final.
Elsewhere, the country’s powerlifting team, including Đặng Thị Linh Phương, Châu Hoàng Tuyết Loan, Nguyễn Thị Thanh Thúy, are scheduled to compete in the women’s 50kg, 55kg, and 61kg categories.
Việt Nam sent 154 members to the regional event this year, including 120 athletes competing for medals in eight sports, namely athletics, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and archery. VNS
