Việt Nam bag first SEA Games medal

Diver Ngô Phương Mai has won the first medal for Việt Nam at the 31st Southeast Asian Games.

HÀ NỘI — Diver Ngô Phương Mai has won the first medal for Việt Nam at the 31st Southeast Asian Games.

Mai grabbed 224 points after five attempts and finished in the bronze medal position in the women's individual 1m springboard event at Hà Nội's Mỹ Đình Water Sports Palace.

She was behind Malaysians, Nur Dhabitah Sabri who took gold with 290.45 points and Kimberly Qian Ping Bong who won silver with 230 points.

It was Mai's fourth SEA Games bronze medal. She took part in the three previous Games and came third in all.

Mai will next compete in the women's synchronised 3m springboard on May 9 and women's individual 3m springboard on May 10. — VNS
