HÀ NỘI — Police will prosecute a number of former government officials accused of corruption at an import, export company.

The investigative police unit under the Ministry of Public Security has decided to take action over corruption allegations at Bình Dương Production and Import Export Company.

These six defendants include Trần Thanh Liêm, former Chairman of Bình Dương Province People’s Committee.

They are accused of violating regulations on managing and using State assets, causing losses and wastefulness at the Bình Dương Production and Import Export Company.

The prosecution is being supervised by the Central Steering Committee on Anti-​Corruption.

According to the investigation documents, police issued arrest orders for Trần Xuân Lâm (former head of the Economic Section of Bình Dương Province People’s Committee), Võ Văn Lượng (former deputy chief of the People’s Committee Office), Nguyễn Thanh Trúc (former chief of the People’s Committee Office), Phạm Văn Cành (former Permanent Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee), Ngô Dũng Phương (head of the finance unit of Bình Dương Province’s Party Standing Committee) and Trần Thanh Liêm.

The Investigation Police Unit, the Ministry of Public Security is continuing to thoroughly investigate the case and apply statutory measures to recover assets for the State.

On June 1, 2021, detectives also issued decisions to prosecute four defendants, Nguyễn Đại Dương; Nguyễn Quốc Hùng (General Director of Âu Lạc Real Estate Joint Stock Company); Phạm Hữu Hiền (former Deputy General Director of Đông Nam Consulting and Valuation Joint Stock Company); Hồ Hoàng Nam (Deputy General Director of Đông Nam Consulting and Valuation Joint Stock Company).

The are also accused of "violating regulations on managing and using State assets, causing losses and wastefulness" under Article 219 of the 2015 Penal Code.

Previously, the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee in Hà Nội on decided disciplinary measures against the Standing Board of the Bình Dương provincial Party Committee in the 2015-2020 tenure, the Party delegation to the provincial People’s Committee in the 2016-2021 tenure and several former leaders of the province.

Trần Văn Nam, in his capacity as member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, head of the provincial delegation of deputies to the 14th National Assembly, was responsible for violations and shortcomings committed by the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee in the 2015-2020 tenure.

The Secretariat also decided to dismiss Phạm Văn Cành, Trần Thanh Liêm, Nguyễn Thanh Trúc and Trần Thanh Lâm from all Party positions. VNS
