HÀ NỘI — Phase one of the Long Thành International Airport Project is scheduled to be officially put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2025.

This was announced in a new decision by Minister of Transport Nguyễn Văn Thể.

In Notice No 214/TB-BGTVT, Thể asked investors of four component projects of the Long Thành Airport Project to complete the construction and installation of equipment before March 31, 2025 for testing and approval must be completed in the second quarter of 2025.

Thể assigned the Civil Aviation Administration of Việt Nam (CAAV) to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Department for Construction and Quality Management of Traffic Works to expeditiously direct the construction and approval of the overall implementation plan for the four component projects.

The site clearance should be completed and approved by July 8 this year at the latest.

“Relevant agencies and units must work closely with Đồng Nai Province to develop an overall implementation schedule in which all site clearance must finish in 2021 as per the direction of the Government and the National Assembly,” Thể said.

He requested the Airports Corporation of Việt Nam (ACV), the Việt Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), the CAAV and the Department of Construction and Quality Management of Traffic Works, based on their functions and duties, to assign units and urgently develop a report on the implementation of the Long Thành International Airport Project. The report must clearly state related difficulties, problems, proposals and recommendations.

According to the Ministry of Transport, as for project component No 3 – essential work in the airport – ACV has set out a plan of the project, starting from the beginning of this year with surveying, clearing mines and explosives. It will end by December 2025 after completing the construction and trial operation.

Up to now, ACV has completed demining for more than 25 per cent of the total area of the project’s phase one and built more than 1,750m of boundary walls.

It is expected that this unit will complete the construction of 8,668m of fences in September this year and demining in December this year.

Drainage for the passenger terminal area and aircraft apron is being designed for construction in November this year in order to prepare the ground for construction of the passenger terminal foundation in February next year. The rest will be built in next year’s first quarter.

The component project No 2 – flight management work – is invested by VATM with total funds of VNĐ3.4 trillion (US$149.2 million). It is expected to start construction from June 2023 and be put into operation from July 2025 to December 2025.

In phase one, the project will build runway No 1 with a length of 4,000m, width of 75m and a system of taxiways and aprons to ensure that all types of aircraft can operate with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year.

It will build one passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 25 million passengers per year and total floor area of 373,000sq.m.

The project will build an air traffic control tower which is about 123m in height and ancillary items, and cargo terminals with a total capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year.

Regarding traffic connection, the Long Thành International Airport will invest in route No 1 connecting the airport with the National Highway 51 with a scale of six lanes. Route No 2 will connect the airport with the HCM City-Long Thành-Dầu Giây Expressway with a scale of four lanes. — VNS
