HÀ NỘI — A second person has died in Việt Nam, with cause of death related to COVID-19.

The 61-year-old man, known as patient 437, had a number of underlying conditions including chronic renal failure, hyper tension, diabetes, heart issues and gout.

His death was confirmed by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Friday night.

Four days ago he tested positive for coronavirus and was put on a life support machine on Wednesday.

But he lost his fight for life on Friday afternoon at Đà Nẵng Hospital.

The cause of death has been determined as septic shock, multi-organ failure, respiratory arrest in pneumonia patients and chronic renal failure. He was undergoing dialysis periodically with conditions including hypertension, gout, and finally COVID-19.

He is the second person to die from a coronavirus related condition. Earlier on Friday a 70-year-old man suffered a heart attack during treatment for COVID-19.

On Friday, the Steering Committee reported 82 new cases, bringing the total number of positive patients to 546.

There are currently more than 53,000 quarantined at hospitals, health centres or isolated at home. — VNS
