BÌNH PHƯỚC — Bình Phước Province should develop high-quality human resources, ensure social security and welfare while protecting the forest, natural resources and environment, and better responding to climate change, a top politician has said.

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân made the statement on Wednesday while working with the provincial People’s Council.

Speaking at the meeting, Ngân asked the province to promote administrative reform, build e-authority, maintain national defence and security, social order and safety, and be active in international integration, especially promoting foreign trade.

The province should have proper measures to restore production, develop the economy, ensure people’s employment and quality of life while controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chairwoman praised Bình Phước for paying much attention to training cadres and gender equality. The province has built a system of young workers and female workers, with many in leading and important positions at different agencies.

Chairwoman Ngân expressed her hope that each member of the council, with the role of representing local residents, would co-ordinate effectively with authorities at different levels in their work, to bring local residents’ wishes and aspirations to the central level.

Ngân said the National Assembly had approved a plan for socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2021-30. The plan aims to create new opportunities for ethnic minority areas to promote internal resources for comprehensive and sustainable development.

Bình Phước is home to people of 41 different ethnic minorities. Therefore, she said, to bring important decisions to life, the provincial People’s Committee must prepare detailed measures and budget well.

Chairwoman Ngân asked the province to get ready for the election of National Assembly deputies for the 15th term and the People’s Council for the 2021-26 term.

Chairman Ngân said she believed the province should work based on its real conditions to select suitable representatives, so when conducting human resource planning, the province should choose those with practical experiences, loved by the people and capable of representing the people’s will and aspirations.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Huỳnh Thị Hằng said despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the province had effectively implemented the Government’s instruction on preventing and controlling the pandemic and develop socio-economy.

Bình Phước’s economic growth in the first six months this year was estimated at 5.3 per cent, while the national average was 1.81 per cent.

Budget revenue increased by 15 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The province attracted 800 investment projects in the past five years, up by four times compared with the 2011-15 period's figure. The projects have capital of VNĐ50 trillion (US$2.2 billion), an increase by three times compared with the five year period.
