HÀ NỘI — The General Department of Market Surveillance under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has seized 4,697 products suspected of being fake in Ninh Hiệp Commune, Hà Nội.

Among the items were belts and clothes of luxury brands such as Lacoste, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Puma, Gucci and Burberry.

Others were smuggled products from China.

On Thursday afternoon, inspection teams of Hà Nội Market Management Department, under the direction of the ministry, examined seven kiosks owned by small traders in Phú Điền and Sơn Long markets, in the Ninh Hiệp area.

The fake goods were labelled with original trademarks before being sold in the domestic market at cheap prices.

The investigators found the fake goods were made in China and smuggled to Việt Nam.

Currently the case is being investigated by the inspection team.

At a meeting with the Steering Committee 389 of Hà Nội on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and fake products on May 28, Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình requested the city Party’s Committee, authorities at all levels, and the Steering Committee 389 to identify the fight as an important task.

Heads of functional forces of district people's committees must be responsible if the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and fake goods occurred publicly and frequently in the locality. — VNS
