HÀ NỘI — For the next month to mark Tết (Lunar) New Year, motorists can travel for free on the Bắc Giang - Lạng Sơn Expressway.
Toll fees will be waived from January 15 to February 14 on the highway which cuts travelling time from Hà Nội to the northern mountainous province of Lạng Sơn from 3.5 to about 2.5 hours.
The move aims to ease the increasing travel demand of people during Tết.
The representative of BOT Bắc Giang - Lạng Sơn Company said it was an effort of the investor - Đèo Cả Group and sponsor bank - Vietinbank to help people during Tết.
By scrapping fees, the company is estimated to lose around VNĐ45 billion (US$1.9 million) in revenue.
The Bắc Giang-Lạng Sơn Expressway was opened in September 2019. It stretches 64km and cost VNĐ12 trillion ($521.7 million) to build.
It has 5 intersections with National Highway 1, National Highway 279, National Highway 37, National Highway 31 and Provincial Road 242.
The arterial road links the important economic corridor between Hà Nội – Lạng Sơn and is one of the seven radial highways connecting to Hà Nội capital. — VNS
