Deputy Minister of Education and Training dies in accident

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Lê Hải An has died after falling from the eighth floor of the ministry’s headquarters in Hà Nội on Thursday morning, Vietnam News Agency reported.

HÀ NỘI — Deputy Minister of Education and Training Lê Hải An has died after falling from the eighth floor of the ministry’s headquarters in Hà Nội on Thursday morning, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Police are investigating the scene of the accident but have released no further details.

This morning the deputy minister was due to attend a workshop on university education at the ministry’s office.

He and his colleagues usually had breakfast in the office canteen. The railing on this floor is quite low.

Lê Hải An was born in 1971 in Hà Nội. He studied geophysics in Russia. He also had master’s degree and PhD in petroleum engineering in Brunei and United Kingdom, respectively.

An worked at Hà Nội’s University of Mines and Geology from 1995 to 2018.

In November last year, An was appointed as Deputy Minister of Education and Training.

He was also secretary of the ministry's Party Committee. — VNS
