HÀ NỘI — The 4th International Conference on Geotechnics for Sustainable Infrastructure Development (GEOTEC HANOI) will be held in November in Hà Nội.
The two-day conference will feature 10 world-leading professors and lectures for six key themes of deep foundation, tunnelling and underground spaces, ground improvement, landslide and erosion, geotechnical modelling and monitoring, and coastal foundation engineering.
The conference is being organised by FECON Corporation, the Vietnamese Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (VSSMGE), Thủy Lợi University and Japan’s Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd (KKC).
“Việt Nam is located in a geographic area with many threats of natural disasters and climate changes, especially the complicated geological conditions which lead to unsustainable construction and operation of buildings nationwide,” said Phạm Việt Khoa, FECON’s management Board president, and GEOTEC 2019’s organisation board’s head.
“There, the tasks of scientists and experts were to find optimal solutions and appropriate technology for construction works to ensure three criteria of sustainable safety, environmental-friendly and lowest cost,” said Khoa.
GEOTEC HANOI has been held in 2011, 2013 and 2016 and has become a well-known event not only in Việt Nam but also internationally.
Each conference was a great event for scholars and engineers from around the world to share the most up-to-date knowledge and technologies in geotechnical engineering.
This year’s conference will help the country’s infrastructure development and solutions for river and coastal landslides which have become serious problems in Việt Nam.
“One of the desires to organise this conference was to contribute to closing gaps of science and technology in geotechnical engineering between Việt Nam and developed countries as well as creating opportunities for experience exchanges among scientists and experts, said Khoa.
The conference is patronised by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
