Hoà Bình border market catches fire, no casualties

TÂY NINH — A fire destroyed most of the kiosks of the Hoà Bình border market in the southern province of Tây Ninh on Sunday.

The Hoà Bình border market is in Châu Thành District’s Thành Long Commune and is about seven kilometres from Phước Tân Border Gate. The market is a place for goods exchange between Vietnamese and Cambodian people.

Nguyễn Văn Chủng, chairman of Thành Long Commune’s People’s Committee, said that the fire broke out at 11.30pm on Sunday, burning down 15 out of 18 kiosks of the market.

Firefighters were sent to the scene. The fire was stamped out two hours later.

No casualties were reported. The losses were estimated at nearly VNĐ2 billion (US$86,000).

The police in Châu Thành District are investigating the cause of the fire. — VNS
