Two given death sentence for drug trafficking

LẠNG SƠN — Lạng Sơn People’s Court has sentenced two men to death on charges of drug trafficking.

The penalty was handed down to Lê Hoàng Thắng, 38, and Lưu Văn Sơn, 33, from Thái Nguyên Province’s Phổ Yên Township.

Vietnamplus.vn reported that according to the indictment, on July 11, 2018, Thắng and Sơn received VNĐ1.3 billion (US$57,500) from Nông Thúy Vân, a woman living in Cao Lộc District, Lạng Sơn Province, to buy ten bricks of heroin for her in Nghệ An Province.

Two of them were told they would earn VNĐ80 million ($3,400) if the trade was successful.

In the afternoon of July 12, 2018, Thắng and Sơn were caught while transporting heroin weighing more than 3.47kg.

In court, the defendants confessed their crimes.

Nông Thúy Vân, head of the drug trafficking group, fled the locality. The investigation agency has issued a nationwide wanted notice for her. — VNS
