HÀ NỘI — The number of cases of measles and hand-foot-and-mouth disease has decreased in Hà Nội, but the capital reported two more dengue fever and whooping cough cases over the past week, according to a report from the Department of Health.

So far this year, Hà Nội has recorded 554 cases of measles, 150 cases of degue fever, 158 cases of hand-foot-and-mouth and 46 cases of whooping cough, but there have been no deaths.

Dr Hoàng Đức Hạnh, deputy director of the Hà Nội Health Department, said the number of measles cases in the city had decreased compared to previous weeks but the threat remained high.

Many parents had not vaccinated their children against the measles, Hạnh said.

The department warned that people should be more serious about vaccinations.

Regarding dengue, Hạnh asked localities to take the initiative to prevent the disease from spreading by spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes and destroy their larvae while advising residents to sleep under mosquito nets. — VNS
