HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hoà Bình has instructed Hà Nội’s People’s Committee to strictly handle the recent assault of a member of Nội Bài International Airport’s security staff.

The results of the investigation must be reported to the Government before January 20.

The request was sent to the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transport and the city’s People’s Committee after the victim was attacked by a group of men offering illegal taxi services from the airport.

Bình has asked the Ministry of Transport to work with the Ministry of Public Security and local authorities to improve transport services to meet the needs of passengers at Nội Bài and other airports around the country.

He also asked authorities to clarify who was responsible for the incident.

On January 11, Nguyễn Văn Điệp, a security officer at the Nội Bài Aviation Security Centre, was patrolling the E lobby area at T1 when he encountered Trần Thị Lý from Sóc Sơn District trying to attract passengers.

Điệp tried to stop Lý but was attacked by two other men and suffered multiple injuries.

Information from the airport showed that the group had been repeatedly caught offering illegal services to passengers.

Illegal taxi services have been creating a bad impression of the airport in the eyes of tourists for years, and the airport has been working with local police to deal with the situation.

Currently, there are 12 taxi firms licensed to operate at the airport. — VNS
