Roads widened to reduce traffic congestion

The capital plans to invest VNĐ125 billion (US$5.4 million) to widen roads in an attempt to reduce traffic jams this month.

HÀ NỘI — The capital city of Hà Nội has carried out works to widen roads in an attempt to reduce traffic jams this month, with total cost of some VNĐ125 billion (US$5.4 million).

These road projects include Phạm Hùng, Láng, Khuất Duy Tiến, and Nghiêm Xuân Yêm - Nguyễn Xiển.

The project to widen a 3km stretch of Phạm Hùng Road from the intersection of Trần Duy Hưng and Khuất Duy Tiến to Mai Dịch will cost over VNĐ24 billion (US$1 million).

Hà Nội has also stripped a 2km-long central reservation along Khuất Duy Tiến Road with total investment of over VNĐ10 billion (US$430,000).

The city has also narrowed pavements to widen 4km of Ring Road 2 (Láng Road) from Cầu Giấy section to Ngã Tư Sở, with total investment of VNĐ64 billion (US$2.76 million).

Over 460 trees will be moved for the expansion.

Deputy director of the transport department Ngô Mạnh Tuấn said at a press briefing on Tuesday the work would be carried out to solve traffic issues.

These roads will be completed before the upcoming Tết (Lunar New Year) holidays which fall on early February. — VNS
