BẠC LIÊU –– Storm Pabuk, the first to hit the East Sea this year, had killed one person, left one missing and injured six others in southern localities as of 10am on Saturday.
The information was revealed by the Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
The dead victim was Nguyễn Văn Phong, 46, a worker on a fishing vessel in the southern province of Bạc Liêu. The missing person is from HCM City and those who were injured live in Bạc Liêu Province.
The storm damaged nearly 240 houses, 81 vessels and boats, as well as over 14,000ha of rice and 162ha of vegetables.
Total losses are estimated at over VNĐ26 billion (US$1.12 million).
The office asked affected localities to continue collecting data on the losses and take urgent measures to overcome consequences. The Việt Nam Television, Radio the Voice of Việt Nam and mass media in localities must continue to give final information on the storm.
The same day, a delegation from the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee led by President Trần Thanh Mẫn visited and presented gifts to victims of the storm in Bạc Liêu Province. –– VNS
