HCM CITY — Việt Nam and South Korea have agreed to strengthen bilateral co-operation on defense and UN peacekeeping activities to maintain peace, security and stability in the region.
Speaking at the seventh Việt Nam-South Korea Defense Policy Dialogue held yesterday in HCM City, Lieutenant General Nguyễn Chí Vịnh, deputy minister of Defense of Việt Nam, praised the strong relations between Việt Nam and South Korea in many fields.
“Việt Nam has always attached great importance to the development of Việt Nam-South Korea cooperation. Strategic cooperation between the two countries has become deeper and stronger,” he said.
Việt Nam will contribute to deepening the defense cooperation between the two countries, he said.
Deputy Minister of Defense Suh Choo Suk, and head of the delegation of the Ministry of Defense of South Korea, said that for many years the South Korea-Việt Nam Strategic Partnership had strengthened in the fields of investment, trade, sports and people exchange.
At the dialogue, the two sides exchanged views on international and regional security issues and international issues of mutual interest, thereby enhancing understanding and trust.
The bilateral defense co-operation focuses on assessing achievements in a number of prominent areas such as high-level delegation exchanges, personnel training, maritime security and humanitarian assistance in overcoming post-war consequences.
The annual event discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, aiming at establishing a multilateral security co-operation mechanism in the region.
The defense policy dialogue holds important exchanges between the two Ministries of Defense as well as the Republic of Korea and Việt Nam in general. — VNS
