PHÚ YÊN — High tides and waves have caused serious disruption to dozens of households in the south-central province of Phú Yên over the last few days.

According to residents living in Bạch Đằng residential area, high tides and waves occurred from Monday and lasted until Tuesday morning.

There were waves up to 2m high with sand falling into local houses in Tuy Hòa City’s Ward 6, Tiền Phong (Vanguard) newspaper reported.

Hồ Văn Nam, a local resident said the waves were higher at night. Water and sand covered the roof of his house, forcing his family to move to another safe area, he said.

Another resident said her children had to move to her relatives’ home for safety because her house was hit by strong waves.

"I could not sleep last night and had to clean the furniture. My house is at risk of collapse if there are more high waves. We hope the Government will soon have a plan to relocate us to a new place," said Phạm Thị Gái, a local resident.

According to local statistics, this area has 40 households with more than 100 people who are at risk of strong tides, of which 21 households are located close to the sea.
