HCM CITY — iệt Nam has sent 86,000 labourers to work abroad this year, reaching more than 78 per cent of the target, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The ministry aims to send 111,000 workers abroad by the end of the year.
Most of the workers are in Japan, Taiwan (China) and South Korea.
The ministry has also opened courses for workers to improve their foreign language skills.
In August, the number of labourers working abroad rose, with more than 13,100 workers, including 6,880 in Japan, 5,130 in Taiwan, 540 in South Korea, and the rest in other countries.
Last year, over 134,700 labourers were sent abroad, including 53,340 female workers.
The country has 340 enterprises providing services to send labourers to work overseas, most of them in Hà Nội and HCM City.
In addition, the ministry has intensified inspections of companies in violation of regulations. Nine enterprises this year were fined a total of VNĐ600 million (US$25,737). — VNS
