HCM CITY – The Goda Green Technology Joint-Stock Company has asked permission from the HCM City People’s Committee to place advertisements on rubbish bins in exchange for setting up 12,000 bins around the city.

Nguyễn Trọng Thanh, chairman of the company, said the shortage of rubbish bins in the city had contributed to more trash in the streets and a loss of urban beauty, as well as difficulties for garbage collectors.

The rubbish bins would separate waste at the source, use solar cells to light up at night, and have wifi connections, if needed.

The bins would vary in size to suit the requirements of each neighborhood.

Hà Nội and Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province have implemented the same plan and have received positive feedback.

The Goda Green Technolgy JSC said it would set up 12,000 rubbish bins over a three-year period, and recoup its investment from adverts on the bins within 15 years.

Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mỹ, deputy director of the city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said the department supported the proposal, which follows the city’s plan to seek private funds for public toilets and trash cans.

However, it should first be piloted in parks and bus stations, and public reaction should then be sought after the installation, she added. – VNS
