BÌNH THUẬN — The groundbreaking ceremony for the first solar energy project in the coastal province of Bình Thuận was held today.

The Power Plus Việt Nam Company pledged to invest VNĐ1 trillion (US$44.4 million) in the Tuy Phong Solar Energy Project, which will be built on 50ha in Tuy Phong District.

The plant will use machinery and technology provided by top international providers such as Jinko Solar, Power Electronic and Daihen.

It is expected to produce a maximum of 63 million kWh a year for Bình Thuận Province.

Huỳnh Thanh Cảnh, deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said that Bình Thuận is well known for its dry weather and abundant sunshine year-round, an advantage for solar power, a renewable energy source being encouraged globally.

International and domestic investors have expressed interest in solar energy development in Bình Thuận.

More than 40 locations in Bình Thuận with a total area of 7,730ha are expected to attract solar power projects.

As part of the province’s master plan until 2030, Bình Thuận is calling for investment in solar power plants with a combined capacity of more than 4,000MW.

Bình Thuận is expected to become a clean power centre for the country in the near future.

Recently, Bình Thuận authorities provided investment certificates to 14 solar energy projects with total investment capital of VNĐ20.7 trillion (US$920 million). — VNS
