QUẢNG NAM — Eleven men onboard a fishing vessel were rescued on Sunday morning in the coastal central province of Quảng Nam’s Tam Giang Commune.

The fishermen were in distress after their vessel was caught fire in the territorial water of the province. The boat sunk with those onboard forced to jump into the sea.

Fortunately, another offshore fishing vessel was nearby and responded to the SOS signal and lifted the men from the water before taking them to the mainland.

All those rescued are in a stable condition. Local authorised agencies are investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the Việt Nam Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre successfully rescued eight fishermen on Saturday afternoon after their engine failed.

The incident occurred while the vessel was running in a common fishing ground between Việt Nam and China, about 130km far from Đà Nẵng City’s coast.

The fishermen then were taken to the city on Saturday night. — VNS
