BÌNH THUẬN — The Tuy Phong District People’s Court in the southern province of Bình Thuận yesterday sentenced 10 people from two to three and a half years in jail for causing public disorder in Hòa Minh Commune on June 10 this year.
Phạm Sang, 26, Ngô Đức Duyên, 20, Nguyễn Chương, 23, Đỗ Văn Ngọc, 22, Nguyễn Minh Kha, 18, Nguyễn Văn Mẹo, 43, Phan Thanh Nam, 28, Ngô Văn Đặt, 29, Nguyễn Ngọc Sang, 22 and Lê Văn Liêm, 23, are all from Bình Thuận Province.
The indictment showed that at about 8am on June 10, a number of residents gathered on Highway 1A in Hòa Minh Commune, and threw rocks and branches at police. They also damaged two motorbikes, two automobiles and caused serious traffic jams until 11pm. Several police were injured.
The investigation found that the 10 ringleaders had provoked the crowd and blocked vehicles travelling on Highway 1A.
The jury said their actions had serious consequences on public security and social safety, so a strict sentence was necessary.
