HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Information and Communications on Monday suspended the publication of the Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) online newspaper for three months for journalism and publishing violations.
According to the decision issued by Lưu Đình Phúc, directorate general of Authority of Press, the news site reported untrue information that caused serious impacts in a story titled ‘The President agreed on the necessity of Demonstration Law enforcement’ published in June 2018 and information that splits national unity contained in reader comments on an article about planning expressways for the southern region published in May 2018.
The news site was asked to correct the false information and slapped with a fine of VNĐ220 million (US$9,500).
The suspension took effect from July 16, affecting only the online Vietnamese version of the publication.
Tuổi Trẻ Online at tuoitre.vn is a publication of Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) newspaper of Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union.
Besides the news site, it publishes a daily printed newspaper, a weekend newspaper, Tuổi Trẻ news fun and an online English news site. — VNS
