HÀ NỘI — The General Statistics Office executes a population and housing census every ten years, with the country’s fifth scheduled to begin on April 1, 2019.

The 2019 census will collect population and housing data to facilitate related research and analyses on Việt Nam population and housing growth, provide information regarding the outcomes of socio-economic plans from 2011 to 2020 and devise strategies for socio-economic development from 2021 to 2030.

The census will investigate general population information, migration status, academic attainment level, technological specialisation, disability rate, marital status, birth and death rate, population growth, labor and occupation, residency and people’s basic living conditions.

The data will be gathered over the course of 25 days beginning April 1, 2019, with the preliminary results to be announced in July. The sample survey results will be issued at the end of 2019, and the general census will be published in the second quarter of 2020. Specialised analyses are to be reported in the last quarter of the same year.

A recent Government decision regarding the population and housing census approved by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc agreed to establish multi-level boards of directors to cooperate with GSO and carry out the census to meet national objectives and head toward sustainable development. — VNS
