HCM CITY— An extracurricular event on proper exercise and nutrition was organised on June 1 at 21 schools around the country built under Dutch Lady’s Đèn Đom Đóm Study Encouragement Programme.
It was held to mark World Milk Day (June1), established by the Food and Agriculture Organization to recognise the importance of milk as a global food and provide an opportunity to focus attention on milk and to publicise activities connected with milk and the milk industry.
It sought to help students, especially in rural areas, learn about proper nutrition to improve their stature and physical health.
More than 16,000 glasses of milk were given to students at the programme.
They also played games and took part in flash mobs.
The event was part of a campaign called Milk Drinking-Exercising-Healthy initiated by FrieslandCampina based on the concept of daily diet, nutrition and exercise affecting a child greatly for many years.
The Đèn Đom Đóm programme, initiated by Dutch Lady in 2002, seeks to prevent children from dropping out of school and gives disadvantaged children a chance to continue schooling.
Besides helping build schools, it has also awarded more than 25,000 scholarships. —VNS
