TÂY NINH — The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has agreed with the Tây Ninh Province’s policy to merge the Chàng Riệc historical and cultural forest with Lò Gò-Xa Mát National Park for administrative purposes.
Chàng Riệc used to be a resistance base and the headquarters of the revolution in the south and has famous sites like the Central Office for South Vietnam and a tunnel system.
The ministry has called on the Tây Ninh Province People’s Committee to complete the merger plan and seek approval from the Government.
The forest and the national park are located in Tân Biên District near the Cambodian border and measure 10,812ha and 19,210ha respectively.
The park also has a 23,500ha buffer zone.
According to the People’s Committee, the merger is expected to help conserve and promote national historical and cultural monuments besides helping protect the biodiversity and natural resources of the two places and develop eco-tourism in Tây Ninh. — VNS
