SÓC TRĂNG — Construction work on a road connecting Sóc Trăng City to a shrimp-rice farming area started, Trần Văn Chuyện, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said on Thursday.
The road has a total length of 25.5km and will be constructed thanks to VNĐ1.2 trillion (US$52.7 million) from the State bond.
The road stretches from Ward 9 in Sóc Trăng City to the Gia Hòa 1 Commune in Mỹ Xuyên District.
With a width of 7m and spanning two lanes and 10 bridges, the road is expected to be finished in 2020.
The road is seen as an important addition to the traffic system, which is instrumental in the development of the province’s economic, trade, tourism, and service sectors, once it opens to the public, Chuyện said.
It is also expected to improve conditions for investment and help meet demand for the transport of goods and agricultural products, especially for the Mỹ Xuyên and Trần Đề districts and Vĩnh Châu Town.
In addition to the road, the province will upgrade a part of Highway No 1, which stretches 20km from Ngã Bảy Town in the southern province of Hậu Giang to Châu Thành District in the southern province of Sóc Trăng. The two-lane portion will be widened to four lanes using nearly VNĐ1.3 trillion ($57.1 million) in funding. — VNS
