BÌNH THUẬN — The body of Thi An Kiện, 24, a backpacker, who was previously reported missing on May 12, was found on Sunday in the coastal central province of Bình Thuận’s Phan Dũng Commune.

A local rescue team discovered his body at the Lao Phào Waterfall on Sunday after more than a week of searching, Hoàng Văn Duy, chairman of the People’s Committee of Phan Dũng Commune, told Zing online newspaper.

Kiện, was reportedly missing while he was trekking the Tà Năng-Phan Dũng route in the province with six companions.

After leading the trekking group in exploring the Tà Năng-Phan Dũng route on May 11, he was reported missing by noon of May 12 when the group stopped for a break at an area near the border between Lâm Đồng Province and Bình Thuận Province.

Nearly 100 members of the local rescue team as well as police dogs were mobilised to look for Kiện and his trekking mates.

The 50km-long Tà Năng-Phan Dũng route, stretching over the provinces of Bình Thuận, Ninh Thuận and Lâm Đồng, is believed to be the best route for trekking in Việt Nam.

However, it is also considered dangerous for backpackers to trek the route without guides. — VNS
