NINH THUẬN — Fourteen persons were severely injured in a collision between a coach and a trailer in Thuận Nam District of central Ninh Thuận Province on Wednesday evening.
The trailer was moving in the north-south direction on National Highway No.1 running through Phước Nam Commune. The driver, Hồ Phi Hải, 26 years old, was taking a turn to park in front of a roadside food stall when a coach coming from behind hit the trailer’s rear.
The front of the coach was severely damaged.
The coach driver, Võ Tấn Việt, 46 years old and 13 other passengers sustained injuries.
Bùi Viết Tuấn, deputy director of Ninh Thuận Province’s general hospital said that among 14 people hospitalised, five sustained multiple extreme injuries.
Victims were already identified. Most of them are above 45 years old.
The accident is being probed further.
The National Highway No.1 section running through Phước Nam Commune is a hot spot for traffic accidents.
Earlier in March this year, also on the section, two lorries collided, killing one driver.
In January this year, a collision between two motorbikes seriously injured three people. — VNS
