HẢI DƯƠNG — Three workers died of burns on Tuesday after being injured in a fire accident at a steel complex in Hải Dương Province.
Representatives from the Hòa Phát Steel Company on Tuesday said three of the four workers who got burnt in the fire accident at its steel complex were dead.
The accident occurred on Monday, while the workers were repairing a blast furnace at the Hòa Phát Steel Complex in the province’s Kinh Môn District, the Người Lao Động (The Labourer) online newspaper reported.
The fire broke out when a hot blast furnace slag dropped on bags of refractory materials that caught fire.
Four workers were injured in the accident, including Hứa Văn Tâm, 42, Nguyễn Văn Tưởng, 49, Bùi Văn Tung, 33, and Vũ Văn Tuyền, 32. All were residents of Hải Dương Province.
They were all taken to the local Kinh Môn General Hospital, then to the National Institute of Burns in Hà Nội, where three of them died.
The surviving worker is being treated at the institute.
The company said it was doing its best to support the families of the victims. All four workers joined the social insurance scheme, it said.
Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
The blast furnace which the workers were repairing was under maintenance since March. It is due to be put back into operation at the beginning of June, according to the company. — VNS
