HCM CITY— The HCM City People’s Committee said it has not received the resignation letter of Đoàn Ngọc Hải, deputy chairman of HCM City’s District 1, according to Võ Văn Hoan, chief of staff and spokesperson for the city People’s Committee.
The man behind a famous campaign to clean up the city’s sidewalk said on Monday he had sent a resignation letter to the city’s People’s Committee, according to media reports.
It was reported that Hải said in his letter that he resigned because he could not complete the sidewalk reclamation campaign, which he had promised to local residents.
From January to October last year, the district’s efforts to bring order to pavements created positive results and spread across the country. The Prime Minister praised the effort and assigned the task to other localities.
However, Hải said that the people were unhappy about penalties on owners of parking lots, restaurants, hotels, businesses and houses.
Hải is a member of the Standing Committee of the city Party Committee. His letter of resignation will be considered, according to Võ Văn Hoan.
