HCM CITY – The Việt Nam Fatherland Front has done a good job promoting democracy, enhancing social feedbacks and helping build a strong Party and Government, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said yesterday.
He made the statement at a conference between the Government and Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) held in HCM City to review their co-operation last year and set tasks for 2018.
At the conference, PM Phúc emphasised the VFFCC and its member organisations had a key role in consolidating and promoting national unity to gain socio-economic achievements.
He highlighted the participation of the VFFCC at the Government’s monthly meetings, in which it contributed ideas reflecting the thoughts of the people and brought recommendations on management and policies for authorities at all levels. He affirmed that the Government has always listened to the VFFC.
The PM lauded the fact that the VFFCC had deployed significant movements, which contributed to achieving socio-economic tasks and taking care of people’s lives, such as by supporting poor people and those affected by natural disasters.
Reports from the VFFCC showed that by the end of 2017, the VFFCC had mobilised more than VNĐ 607 billion (US$26.7 million) to help people overcome damage caused by natural disasters.
Fundraising for the poor has earned more than VNĐ919 billion ($40.4 million). Roughly 32,420 houses have been built for those in need. More than 2.7 million poor people have received free health check-ups.
He also stressed that the VFFCC’s feedback and supervision activities have improved, focusing on settling complaints and denouncements, food safety and protecting the rights and interests of people and enterprises.
Referring to this year’s tasks, Phúc suggested that the VFFCC continue to build and strengthen national unity, especially via strengthening education to fight fake news on social networks that undermine the trust of the people in the Party and the State.
The VFFCC at all levels should do better in providing social welfare for the poor, the disabled, the elderly and disadvantaged people. It should also better co-ordinate with the Government to supervise issues of public concern such as reforms of administrative procedures, improving the business environment, assessing the satisfaction of the people and responsibilities of leaders in fighting corruption. – VNS
