HÀ NỘI — Some 100 drivers of the Ba Sao Taxi Company continue to strike on Tuesday, asking for the reduction of two-way radio charges and expansion of promotion spots.
The strike started on Monday when they stopped their cars around the Ba Sao Company Headquarters in Trung Yên Park, Cầu Giấy District, asking for a dialogue with the company’s leaders.
According to the drivers, their incomes have significantly decreased. Those who bought the company’s cars with installment purchase contracts are among the most affected.
Driver, Phạm Đức Tiễn, said that previously, they could earn VNĐ800,000 to 1 million (US$35 – 44) per shift of 12 hours. With Uber and Grab coming into play, the number has dropped to some VNĐ500,000 per shift.
Therefore, they want to ask for the reduction of two-way radio charges from VNĐ2 million ($88) to VNĐ300,000-500,000.
According to drivers, despite their recommendations, the company has not yet provided desirable feedback. They also warned of cancelling business contracts with any driver who sends any requests. Drivers told Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper that they would continue striking peacefully until the leaders negotiate and consider existing policies.
Ba Sao Company, on the other hand, announced that its leaders were holding a private meeting to solve the problem.
