HCM CITY — A fire engulfed a store containing a large quantity of agricultural products owned by an individual company in central Bình Định Province’s An Nhơn Township, an official said on Tuesday.

The site of the fire, which began at 2.30am, was 500m from the petrol station of the Đại Tín Ltd Co, which also owned the burning store that mainly contained wheat flour.

Phạm Đình Trung, deputy director of the provincial Firefighting and Prevention Police, said nine fire trucks and 100 firefighters were mobilised to extinguish the fire.

By 10.30am, excavators were mobilised to the scene to remove some equipment and goods from the workshop. Meanwhile, firefighters also continued to spray water to put out the fire.

Lê Văn Bé, director of the Đại Tín Ltd Co, said the fire was first noticed by some night-shift workers. Subsequently, all the labourers were called to put out the fire, but it spread too quickly.

“The company detected the fire in the warehouse centre. The company mobilised workers to put out the fire, meanwhile calls were made to the provincial firefighting police for timely support,” he said.

Apart from the provincial police, local firefighting forces from Tây Sơn District, An Nhơn Town and the Phú Tài industrial zone also lent a helping hand.

Bé said 200 tonnes of goods and equipment were destroyed, including wheat flour, agricultural machines and timber doors, with damage estimated at some VNĐ2 billion.

There were no reports of injuries in the blaze.
