QUẢNG NAM — Police in this central province have arrested a man for operating a ring that smuggled some 50kg of explosive material to process bombs in Tam Kỳ District.
Phan Văn Dân, 43, from the province’s Quế Thuận Commune, Quế Sơn District, was arrested following several days of investigation after a passenger coach owned by the Cẩm Vân transport company, while travelling from the North to South, was stopped on Monday.
The coach with licence plate 43B-023.13 was stopped on road passing through Tam Kỳ District. Traffic police patrolling the area suspected the coach was being used to transport smuggled goods.
Two packages of explosives, weighing 50kg in total, were found in the cargo section.
The driver of the coach, Đỗ Tấn Huyền, and the illegal goods were transferred to the provincial investigative police. They later confirmed the explosives belonged to Dân, who hired the coach to transport the smuggled explosive material to HCM City for sale.
Lieutenant Colonel Bùi Hồng Tình, head of the province’s investigative police office, said the police confirmed Dân had been illegally smuggling similar quantities of explosives, and had therefore violated rules related to the transportation of explosives.
Investigation into the case would be expanded, according to Tình. — VNS
