HCM CITY — Custom officials at HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport have taken a man into custody for allegedly trying to smuggle in dozens of cheetah and leopard fangs and African lion claws.

After arriving from Dubai, the man, who has not been identified, tried to leave through the green channel.

However, noticing suspicious signs, custom officials inspected his luggage to find the contraband.

The city People’s Procuracy has been handed the case for investigation.

The cheetahs, leopard and African lion are classified as “vulnerable” in the IUCN Red List.

According to statistics provided by customs, only 5 per cent of passengers go through the red channel and declare goods. — VNS
